Israeli Startup Clarity Raises $16M for Deepfake Detection

Israeli deepfake detection startup Clarity has raised $16 million in seed funding led by Walden Catalyst Ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners. The software helps to detect fake footage created by generative AI models during the Israel-Hamas war, with plans to expand and hire more employees.

Founded in 2022 by CEO Michael Matias, CTO Natalie Fridman, and CSO Gil Avriel, Clarity focuses on developing software to detect deepfakes and combat the spread of misinformation, particularly during election campaigns and conflicts. The company has patented technology to analyze AI manipulations in media, authenticate content, and work with the Israeli government and other partners to verify sensitive video footage and testimonials.

With the rise of generative AI and deep learning, deepfake technology creates realistic renderings of people and voices, posing a significant threat to digital media authenticity. Clarity aims to create a layer of trust for digital content amid the invasion of deceit.
